Klaus Nomi
Klaus Nomi by Stefano Castronovo at MOMA’s Club 57 Show. This portrait was left unfinished when Nomi passed away in 1983 from AIDS. I remember his first appearance on TV Party when he was a pastry chef and made a lime tart.

Keith Haring
I saw my first Keith Haring chalk drawing at the 96th St subway station around 1981. I’d heard of him and was surprised to see one uptown. Some of his old drawings were on display at the Brant Foundation’s excellent retrospective in the original subway ad boards. Art collectors must have pried them off.

Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes
I don’t go often, so am awestruck by the concentric circles in Radio City’s interior design every time I visit. Couldn’t get the Looney Tunes title card, which reference the venue’s Art Deco rings, out of my mind while waiting for Raye’s set. The mid-show graphics directly called out the design, which is a remarkable production detail given that Radio City is a single tour stop.
